MCM Expo May 2012 Roundup
So I figured whilst in this limbo between ‘no anime to watch’ and ‘not arsed enough to do something productive’ (will try and get my latest toon done sometime this week), I figured I may as well do a writeup of my visit to MCM Expo, (aka that expo you go to when you’re too poor for Comic Con).
Day One
I randomly stuff all my essentials in my bag and headoff towards London. Upon arriving, I instantly realise that I once again fail at picking decent hotel locations, as it was a good long trek in the sun (wearing my jacket since it didn’t fit in my backpack) before I found where I was. Nice room nonetheless. The telly had a swivel so I could watch it whilst taking a bath. With spare clothes dumped and jacket now pleasantly removed, I make my way over to the ExCeL centre where I catch up with the usual Youtube dorks, such as TomSka, Bing, Matt, Jamie, Jack Mace, Louise and that short one, as well as Jack and Dean who I met in Lincoln previously, occassionally drifting past tables ran by Gagaman and the Super Flash Bros’ Dim. Watched a couple of panels hosted by Bing and TomSka respectively, during which I got to hold Bing’s super expensive camera for a short bit to film him for Future Bing. Surprisingly enough I even manage to get a few people to recognise me and sign stuff (I think I’m on a Sharpie craze because of it). Finally got to get a hands on with Rhythm Paradise, blatantly making silly movements whenever I played the Ringside stage. As the day wound down, I hung out outside where most of the friendly dorks roam outside, and chatted with a trio of chopfans who were holding some TF2 meetup, which inevitably sparked the creation of Kawaii Penis.
Day Two
Two main annoyances from the off. One being that, due to the busy nature, the 3G was impossible to use properly. The second being, due to some technical bullshit, Ashens and Happy Harry weren’t allowed to hold their exhibit and got sent home. =( Other annoyances included realising my only other pair of jeans had a broken zip, and an autorenewal on an antivirus noone in the family uses anymore meant £50 less for me to spend. >=| Did get to catch up with Eddache and hung around with him for a good portion of the day. I bought a new pair of goggles and we played some games and whatnot before watching a group of zombie cheerleaders, consuming no end of free cherry lollipops. Also hung out and did some doodles with some more fans, even helping one of them remember to collect their game of Croc. At the end of the day, I spent a lil time pubbing with Jack Mace before observing a large and very hilarious game of spin the bottle. Makeouts everywhere. Afterwards, I conveniently managed to catch the trains back before they finished and watched some toons before tiredness got the better of me.
Day Three
The final day which wasn’t as busy as Saturday but still a little bit. One noticeably lol thing I did was stepping up on GameSpot’s stage to show the bitches how really play Rhythm Paradise (skip to 1:17:00). Overall I didn’t do much besides play a little DOA5 with Jack Mace (getting butt kicked when I pick the one character who isn’t a ninja), buying my bro a birthday present, partaking in a short drawing lesson and getting fiercely grabbed by Batman (pic related). Near the end of the day, me and some others were given some poster tubes to vandalise, and I produced what would come to be known as The Ultimate Poster Tube. At the end of the day, I spend a little more time outside (running into those TF2 people again) before deciding to head back home.
Twas good fun. And now I’m poor. Time to rough up some clients for monies.
